Ikebana Freestyle Flower Arranging, August 16

Join us for a relaxing evening of flower arranging with certified Ikebana instructor, Terry Chang. Flowers will be provided, and participants should bring a shallow container about 3 inches deep, and a pin frog of at least 2 inches (these can be purchased at Michael's).

Evening Movie, August 21, An Inconvenient Truth

Join us August 21 at the Hillsborough Public Library for a showing of An Inconvenient Truth. This movie won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature in February.

An Inconvenient Truth presents Al Gore's campaign to make the issue of global warming a recognized problem worldwide. Intertwining simple but harrowing statistics with personal reflections, Vice President Gore explains that the tools and methods to reverse the damage we have done are at hand, and that the economic consequences of tackling the problem are positive rather than negative.

Book Discussion, August 14, An Inconvenient Truth

Join us as Librarian Laura Mellor leads a discussion of Al Gore's controversial book, An Inconvenient Truth, that took the country (and the world) by storm. What do you think? Does the book change your mind in any way? Are we destroying the planet, ourselves and our children? How can we alter the deadly direction in which we are heading? Are we heading in a deadly direction? A few years ago, we laughed at these dire concerns... now we're not so sure???

This popular nonfiction book is required reading for all Hillsborough students entering their sophomore year. Please join us for a stimulating discussion that is open to students and their families.

Join us for a discussion of Geraldine Brooks' prize-winning novel March.

March tells the story only hinted at in Little Women, following the father, Peter March, as he joins the Union army to fight the Civil War. Although March writes cheerful letters home, this book explains the harsh realities of war, and the cruelty and racism shown by both North and South.
