Delaware and Raritan Canal Slide-Talk, April 28
Adults and children alike will enjoy author Linda Barth's slide talk about this famous waterway, one of the most successful towpath canals in the United States. How did the canal operate? Who lived along the canal? What vessels cruised this waterway?
For nearly 170 years, the Delaware and Raritan Canal has meandered across the narrow waist of New Jersey. One of the most famous towpath canals in the United States, the D&R carried more tonnage than the famous Erie Canal. Today, as the centerpiece of the Delaware and Raritan State Park, the canal provides the people of central New Jersey with both a water supply and a premier recreational facility.
