Music in the West Wing, June 29, 2010

Join us at the Hillsborough Public Library at 7pm on Tuesday, June 29, for another installment of our Music in the West Wing series. The Raritan Valley Symphony Brass Quintet will perform a musical mix of Dixieland, Jazz and American favorites.

Registration is not required. However, a reminder of the program will be sent a couple days prior to the program if you register with your email address. Music in the West Wing, June 30, 2010

Join us at the Hillsborough Public Library at 7pm on Wednesday, June 30, for another installment of our Music in the West Wing series.  Seasons is a sibling harp and hammered dulcimer trio. They each play piano and percussion and range in age from seventeen to twenty-two. Seasons has been playing professionally and as a ministry for about seven years.

Splash Into Books Magic Show, Ages 5+, August 31, 2010

Celebrate the end of our Summer Reading programs with Brian Richards, whose comedy magic is loved by young and old alike!

Music in the West Wing, August 19, 2010

Join us at the Hillsborough Public Library at 7pm on Thursday, August 19 for another installment of our Music in the West Wing series. Matthew Fishteyn, an accomplished young musician, will play classical, jazz, rock n’ roll, rag time and flamenco on the keyboard and guitar. Matthew graduated from the Special Music School of America and came in 3rd place in the 2007 Young Performer Competition in Wagner College.

Pearl Observatory Star Lab, ages 8+, August 17, 2010

Join us at 7pm on Tuesday, August 12, to see the Pearl Observatory Star Lab. John Miller will bring his star lab to the library! Star lab is a portable planetarium. Come and learn about how to locate planets, stars, constellations and more!

The New Taste of Sweet: Using Natural Sweeteners, August 12, 2010

Join us at 7pm on Thursday, August 12, for our program on the New Taste of Sweet. Presented by Gale Maleskey, MS, RD. She has been a senior editor for Prevention magazine, and has authored seven books. Learn about using Brown Rice Syrup, Date Sugar, Stevia, Fruit Juice Concentrates and Other Natural Sweeteners as healthier alternatives to white sugar in a hands-on, goodies-sampling session. You'll have a chance to taste these sweeteners and the foods made with them, and take home recipes for 3 nutritious sweets!

Journal Keeping, August 7, 2010

Join us at the Hillsborough Public Library at 11am on Saturday, August 7, and get in touch with your inner self by learning the techniques of Journal Keeping which can be healthy physically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually. Inspirational writing will be practiced during the program. Presented by Kim Leatherdale A.T.R., L.P.C. who has had speaking engagements with a wide range of organizations and has written for multiple newspapers and newsletters including The New York Times and New Jersey Monthly.

Ancient Undersea Reptiles, Ages 5+, August 3, 2010

Join us at 7pm on Tuesday, August 3 for Ancient Undersea Reptiles. Presented by Mike and Roberta Straka of Dinosaur Expedition. Be delighted and entertained when you meet Molly the Mosasaur, a gigantic fossil replica of an ancient, undersea reptile! Learn about her world and how geologists and paleontologists work to discover even more amazing finds.

New Jersey Rocks, Ages 8+, July 27

Afternoon Movie, Young Victoria, July 21

This movie chronicles the life and times of Queen Victoria from her childhood to her early rise to power and the first turbulent years of her rule. Her romantic relationship and eventual marriage to Prince Albert culminates in a royal power struggle which ultimately is the key to her happiness when she comes to the realization that he is someone she can fully trust and believe in. Starring Emily Blunt and Rupert Friend.

The movie is rated PG. Running time is 105 minutes.

Colonial Music in the West Wing, July 21

Join us in the West Wing as Mark and Ann Ridley perform authentic Colonial Music for us. They will be playing music with a historical 1776 violin and a hammered dulcimer. They will also be bringing their charming Colonial percussion instrument called the Limberjack. All ages are invited to enjoy the music of this duo whose CD's were voted Notable Recordings by the American Library Association.
