The years after the Civil War ushered in many changes in the eating habits of Victorian America. New Jersey photographer, Walter Choroszewski, brings his photo expertise, humor, and a 'straight-talk' perspective for an introductory class covering the basics of photography and how to apply them in the Digital Age. He will help demystify menus and megapixels and he will discuss realistic expectations and limitations of digital photography.

The Christmas Night Crossing and the Battle of Trenton, January 15, 2011

Join us at the Hillsborough Library from 1:30-4:00pm on Saturday, January 15 for a program on Washington's Christmas Night Crossing of the Delaware. Using diaries and letters of the participants, Washington Crossing State Park's Resource Interpretive Specialist Clay Craighead will speak about the significance of General George Washington's Christmas Night Crossing and the turning point Battle of Trenton. A 30 minute DVD on this topic will be shown after the lecture.

Holiday Music in the West Wing, December 13, 2010

Come and join us at the Hillsborough Library at 7pm on Monday, December 13, for an evening of Holiday music with Seasons as they bring us to another place and time with the beautiful sounds of their harps and hammered dulcimers. Lenape-Delaware Indian Heritage, Ages 6+, November 13, 2010

Join us at the Hillsborough Library at 2pm on Saturday, November 13, for our program on the Lenape-Delaware Indian Heritage. Open to ages 6 and up, caregivers and interested adults all welcome.

Archaeologist and author, John Kraft, will discuss the life of the Lenape-Delaware people who once populated New Jersey and the surrounding area. He will talk about Lenape daily life, legends, art, religious beliefs, customs, traditions and system of government. There will be a “hands on” display of Lenape artifacts.

Fred Miller presents music, music, music!: 1946-1956 Postwar Prosperity and the rise of rock and roll, June 10, 2010

Join us at the Hillsborough Library at 7pm on Thursday, June 10 for our program on the rise of rock and roll. There is no better way to experience the continuous, dramatic shifts and spirit in twentieth century American life than to delve into its popular music. To that end, pianist/singer/narrator Fred Miller has been presenting his extensive series of Lectures-In-Song for nearly a decade. Miller will point out various historical items of popular culture, lingo, new inventions, crazes, commercial products and most importantly, the popular songs of this distinct American era.

Join us at the Hillsborough Library at 7pm on Thursday, June 3, for the next in our Evenings in the West Wing series as Kim Yarson, Jo Wymer and Keith Monacchio share their original music with us. You might even be lucky enough to be the winner of the raffle!

Keith Monacchio was raised on American rock and roll and roots music. He has already earned accolades such as being called "one of the best songwriters in New Jersey" by Gary Wien of AsburyMusic.com. Whether deep into traditional country territory, tender ballads or the dusty southern porches of the Smoky Mountains, Keith paints stark pictures with intuition and feel, and he goes where the listener needs him to be.

Kim Yarson has been writing songs since 1994, and has been trained by some of Nashville's top hit songwriters through Nashville Songwriters Association International workshops over the years. "I write and sing songs to paint hope with one foot here on earth and one in heaven."

Jo Wymer, Freehold's best kept secret, has been named one of the 100 women of blues guitar by Guitarwoman.com. She has been selected as a finalist in several national songwriting and band competitions. Her powerful, searing vocals got her a nomination in 2007 for an Asbury Musical award in the category of "Top Female Vocal".

Secrets of Beautiful Skin, May 11, 2010

Csilla is a certified holistic health and nutrition counselor who will teach us how to nourish our skin with foods that calm inflammation, strengthen hair and nails and keep our bodies running smoothly. She is joined by Liz Hoffman, a certified Shiatsu and Reflexology practitioner who will introduce us to the benefits of essentials oils and aromatherapy. Storytelling Competition, April 13, 2010

Have a good story to tell? In celebration of National Library Week, come join us at the Hillsborough Public Library at 7pm on Tuesday, April 13 for a storytelling competition and share your tale with our community. Story themes should focus on a family legend, a best or worst birthday celebration or vacation, or the misfortune of breaking a bone. Category prizes will be awarded.
