The Story of Corruption in New Jersey: How Bad Are We?

Dr. Marc Mappen has been praised by the New York Times as 'the eminent historian of New Jersey' and by the Star Ledger as an 'engaging speaker.' In his talk, Rutgers historian Mappen will use zest and humor to explore three centuries of political corruption in the Garden State.

Dr. Mappen  has seven books to his credit, including the award-winning Encyclopedia of New Jersey,  which he co-edited, and Jerseyana: The Underside of New Jersey History. His most recent book is Prohibition Gangsters: The Rise and Fall of a Bad Generation, which is a featured selection of the History Book Club and the Book of the Month Club. He has written over 100 articles and essays in publications that include the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, Rutgers Magazine, and New Jersey Heritage.  He has been interviewed on the History Channel and National Public Radio.  Marc has a Ph.D. in American History and was  formerly a dean at Rutgers University and Executive Director of the New Jersey Historical Commission, he retired in July 2010. He is currently the President of the Board of Trustees of the Highland Park Public Library.
