Experience an outstanding performance of colonial music in the West Wing to set the mood for the Thanksgiving holiday. Mark and Ann Ridley, back by popular demand, will be playing music with a historical 1776 violin, a hammered dulcimer, and a Limberjack. All ages are invited to enjoy the music of this duo whose CD’s were voted Notable Recordings by the American Library Association.
This musical program begins at 7:00 and will end at approximately 8:00.

Green Mapping, October 5, 2011

A Green Map plots the locations of a community's natural, cultural and sustainable resources.


Join the Hillsborough Public Library in collaboration with BoroGreen to map green initiatives in our region such as farm locations, green businesses, parks, and trails. One goal is to help create a regional bike corridor from Hillsborough through Montgomery, Princeton, and ending in Lawrence Township. Through a Dodge Foundation grant and Sustainable Jersey, these 4 towns have sent representatives to learn how to create Green Maps http://www.greenmap.org/ and are now joining forces so that cyclists can bicycle locally more easily.

Poetry in the West Wing, April 12, 2011

April is Poetry Month!  Join us in the West Wing of the Hillsborough Public Library at 7pm on Tuesday, April 12, as Charles H. Johnson, a Geraldine Dodge Foundation Poet, will read selections of his poetry in the West Wing. He has recently published his third poetry collection, 'Smoke Signals' and won a 2007 Paterson Poetry Prize Award for Literary Excellence for his collection 'Sam's Place' and was a 2004 Paterson Poetry finalist for his book 'Tunnel Vision'. He has also had his poetry published in a variety of literary journals and newspapers. Charles, a resident of Hillsborough, will answer your questions after his presentation.

Join us at the Hillsborough Public Library at 7pm on Tuesday, March 31, for an entertaining, educational and enlightening evening as the author of 'Life on the Shoulder', Gordon Thomas Ward, discusses his inspiring journey along the Lewis and Clark Trail. Gordon details his 1800 mile expedition through photographs and personal anecdotes. Travel back through time and  revisit the places explored  by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark as recorded in their journals and the pages of history in their search for the Northwest Passage.

Have Fun With Chinese Characters, March 19, 2011

Have you ever wondered  about the meaning of Chinese characters .... and what  the pattern of all of those strokes represent? Chinese characters are the oldest continuously used writing system in the world.  Join us at the Hillsborough Public Library at 2pm on Saturday, March 19, for a workshop in which you will learn the concept and history of this ancient script. Jeanette Wu will explain how the characters are formed  and how the strokes are used. Try  your hand at writing the characters yourself… there will be time to practice your new writing skill!

Music In the West Wing, March 15, 2011

Join us in the West Wing of the Hillsborough Public Library at 7pm on Tuesday, March 15, for Celtic music with Seasons.

Seasons is a sibling harp and hammered dulcimer trio who will bring us to another place and time with their beautiful sounds. They each play piano and percussion and range in age from seventeen to twenty-two. Seasons has been playing professionally and as a ministry for about seven years. They will be performing many holiday classics and selections from their CD Which Way to Dublin Town.

Seasons has two CD’s and has opened for three-time Grammy Award winner Ashley Cleveland.
